The damage that ruins alloy wheels mostly comes from three sources:

Brake dust left on the wheel. Brake pads release iron particles every time you brake. These embed in the clear-coat surface and oxidise (rust) as they sit there. The step-by-step cleaning process

Step 1: cool down and rinse

Park the car in shade or out of direct sun for at least 30 minutes before starting.
